KADUNA, August 3, 2025 — Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has officially launched the distribution of 400 trucks of fertilizer to support over 100,000 smallholder farmers across the state, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to agricultural productivity and food security.
The flag-off ceremony, held in Kaduna, marked a major step in the state’s 2025 wet season agricultural intervention programme. The fertiliser distribution is targeted at boosting crop yields and enhancing the livelihoods of rural farmers, particularly those affected by economic hardship and climate-related challenges.
Governor Sani described the initiative as a direct response to the growing need for increased food production and rural economic development. He stated that the intervention aligns with his administration’s broader agricultural policy to strengthen Kaduna’s status as a key food-producing hub in Nigeria.
The fertilizer is to be distributed across all 23 local government areas, with priority given to vulnerable farming households, women, youth, and those engaged in staple food crop cultivation. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that each beneficiary will receive fertilizer quantities proportionate to their farm size and crop type.
The governor also reiterated that the distribution process would be closely monitored to prevent diversion and ensure the inputs reach genuine farmers. He warned that any attempt to sabotage the scheme would be met with strict disciplinary measures.
This fertilizer programme follows a series of state-led agricultural interventions under the Sani administration, including provision of mechanization services, extension training, and market linkages. Experts believe the scheme could significantly impact food availability and affordability across Kaduna and surrounding states.
Governor Sani urged farmers to make efficient use of the inputs and contribute to the government’s ongoing drive toward achieving food sufficiency, reducing poverty, and creating sustainable rural employment opportunities.
