In a bid to deepen public understanding and participation in voluntary blood donation, the Lagos State Government, through General Hospital Ijede, has conducted a medical outreach and sensitization programme targeted at the Muslim community in Ikorodu.
The event, which held at the Ansar-ud-Deen Central Mosque in Igbogbo, brought together worshippers and community leaders for an engaging session on the importance of regular blood donation in saving lives and supporting healthcare delivery.
Addressing the participants, the Assistant Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist at the hospital, Mrs. Kafilah Imran, described voluntary blood donation as a cornerstone of emergency medical response, maternal healthcare, surgeries, and treatment of chronic illnesses. She underscored the critical shortage of safe blood in many health facilities and encouraged more Nigerians to embrace regular donation.
Mrs. Imran also debunked common myths and misconceptions surrounding blood donation, assuring attendees of the safety and health benefits of donating blood voluntarily.
As part of the outreach, participants received free health checks, including blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, along with general consultations. Several individuals were also screened as prospective voluntary donors.
The initiative is part of the hospital’s broader effort to foster healthy communities and maintain an adequate blood supply across Lagos State. General Hospital Ijede reaffirmed its commitment to continuous public education and engagement to boost safe blood availability through sustained awareness campaigns.
