“I’m Afraid of the EFCC” – Suspected Employment Scam Kingpin Surrenders Self in Gombe

In an unusual twist of events, a middle-aged man, Idris Adamu, shocked staff at the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, June 2, 2025, when he voluntarily walked into the commission’s premises to confess his involvement in a long-running employment scam.

Adamu, who arrived at the EFCC office around 1:00 PM, requested to meet with the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad. According to eyewitnesses, he claimed he wanted to “repent of his sins” and make a full confession about his past criminal activities.

While in the Director’s office, the suspect reportedly admitted to defrauding multiple individuals by falsely promising them jobs in various Federal Government agencies in exchange for money.

“I came to confess to the EFCC,” Adamu stated. “In the past, I have obtained a total sum of N9 million through my bank account from different individuals by offering them fake employment offers. I have changed, but I’m afraid of the EFCC.”

Responding to the confession, DCE Sa’ad thanked the suspect for his honesty but emphasized that due process must still be followed. He directed that Adamu be handed over to the Investigation Department for a thorough probe and further action.

The EFCC, in a brief statement, confirmed the development and reiterated its commitment to rooting out economic and financial crimes across the country, noting that fear of the commission’s reach continues to send a strong deterrent message to fraudsters nationwide.

The case has now been opened for investigation, and the EFCC has assured the public that justice will be served in accordance with the law.
