ABUJA, July 24, 2025 – The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has disclosed that the service’s legal department is actively pursuing disciplinary action against officers implicated in the illegal issuance of Nigerian green passports to foreign nationals.
Speaking in Abuja, CG Nandap confirmed that internal investigations had revealed serious breaches involving some personnel who were found complicit in processing and distributing passports to non-Nigerians through fraudulent means. She stated that such actions undermine national security, violate Nigeria’s immigration laws, and tarnish the country’s global image.
“The Nigerian passport is a national asset and must not be reduced to a tool of abuse or compromise,” she said, emphasizing that the NIS would not tolerate any form of misconduct among its ranks.
According to her, affected officers are already facing internal disciplinary procedures, while others have been referred for prosecution. She added that the service is reinforcing its internal control systems, deploying technology, and enhancing background checks to safeguard the integrity of passport issuance processes.
The NIS boss reassured the public that all measures are being taken to restore trust in the system and uphold the sanctity of Nigerian citizenship documentation. She also urged citizens to report any suspicious passport-related activities to relevant authorities for prompt investigation and action.
