NIS Sets August 1 for Full Rollout of Digital CERPAC Application System

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced that beginning August 1, 2025, the application process for the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) will be fully digitised. The new digital system is part of the federal government’s broader effort to modernise immigration services and improve transparency, efficiency, and service delivery.

According to the NIS, the move will eliminate manual submissions for CERPAC applications, allowing expatriates and corporate sponsors to submit all required documentation online through the new Expatriate Administration System (EAS). While physical visits to immigration offices will no longer be required for application submissions, biometric data capture will still take place at designated centres after approval.

The digital transition also extends to other related services, including expatriate quota and business permit applications, which will now be processed through the same online platform. Applicants will be able to upload documents, make payments, and track the status of their applications in real time.

NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, confirmed the development and urged users to access the service through the official NIS website. She also cautioned against patronising fraudulent websites, stressing that only the official portal should be used for all immigration-related submissions.

This reform follows the successful rollout of other digitisation efforts by the Service, including the e-visa system launched in May, which has already processed over 14,000 applications, and the automation of landing and exit cards.

The fully digital CERPAC process is expected to reduce processing time, curb corruption, and enhance regulatory compliance. The NIS has advised individuals and corporate bodies involved in expatriate employment to familiarise themselves with the new system and ensure all required documents are in order ahead of the August 1 launch date.

With this development, Nigeria joins the growing list of countries adopting digital technologies to streamline immigration processes and promote ease of doing business for international investors and skilled workers.
