INEC Extends Voter Registration in Anambra as Over 96,000 Enroll in Nine Days

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State, following a significant surge in participation. Within just nine days of commencement, a total of 96,085 eligible persons have been successfully enrolled.

This extension was announced by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, who disclosed that the Commission decided to continue the exercise due to the impressive turnout of registrants and the need to ensure inclusivity ahead of the 2025 off-cycle governorship election in the state.

According to Dr. Agwu, the registration process, which began earlier this month, recorded 45,000 successful online applications and over 51,000 physical registrations at designated centres across the 21 local government areas of the state. She noted that the Commission had also deployed additional machines and staff to accommodate the growing number of applicants.

The REC urged all eligible citizens, particularly first-time voters and those who recently changed locations, to take advantage of the extension and register before the new deadline. She emphasized that voter registration is crucial to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process and ensuring citizens’ voices are heard at the polls.

INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections and assured residents of Anambra State that all necessary measures are in place to guarantee a smooth registration and electoral process.
