Iran has announced the appointment of a new head for the intelligence division of its Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), following the recent killing of the former chief in an Israeli airstrike. According to the official Irna news agency, Major General Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the IRGC, has appointed Brigadier General Majid Khadami to lead the intelligence unit.
Brigadier General Khadami succeeds Mohammed Kazemi, who was killed alongside two other senior IRGC officers, Hassan Mohaghegh and Mohsen Bagheri, in an Israeli attack last Sunday. The appointment comes shortly after Pakpour himself took command, following the death of his predecessor, Hossein Salami, who was also targeted in an Israeli strike on June 13.
In a statement, Major General Pakpour praised the late commanders Kazemi and Mohaghegh for their contributions, noting that under their leadership, the IRGC’s intelligence capabilities saw “significant growth in all aspects.” The ongoing targeted strikes against Iran’s military leadership underscore the intensifying conflict between Tehran and Israel, as both sides continue to exchange blows in a protracted struggle marked by a series of high-profile assassinations and military operations.
The swift replacement of key intelligence personnel highlights Tehran’s determination to maintain operational resilience amid escalating external pressures and targeted attacks on its security infrastructure.
