Italy Pledges Support for Kaduna’s Investment Growth

The Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Lacopo Foti, has reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting Kaduna State’s investment initiatives by encouraging Italian businesses to explore opportunities in the region. Ambassador Foti made the declaration during a courtesy visit to Kaduna’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in the state capital on Saturday.

During the meeting, Ambassador Foti highlighted that the Italian Embassy is ready to facilitate investments in sectors such as machinery and manufacturing, as well as agricultural ventures, including tractor plants. He urged the Kaduna State Government to approach the embassy for assistance in connecting with potential investors.

“We are here to introduce ourselves, understand the state’s investment plans, and see how we can collaborate,” Foti stated. “If you are looking for private investments, especially in areas like machinery or manufacturing, or if you have long-term plans, let us know. We are ready to connect you with the right Italian companies.”

The ambassador expressed optimism about future partnerships in agriculture, education, and technical training, adding that further discussions would be held in the coming months to explore tangible collaborations.

“I believe the climate here in Kaduna is better than in Abuja, and the people are very friendly,” Foti added. “This is my first visit to Kaduna, and I plan to return next month to meet with the Italians living here and explore ways to support both them and the state government.”

In her response, Deputy Governor Balarabe acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Italy and Nigeria, noting that the state was eager to deepen economic ties with the European nation. She directed the Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA) to prepare a proposal for the Italian Embassy, aimed at kick-starting formal discussions on potential investments.

“We have significant advantages in agriculture, mining, tourism, and human capital. Italy has strengths in manufacturing, technology, education, and renewable energy,” Dr. Balarabe said. “We hope this visit marks the beginning of fruitful collaboration in these areas. We look forward to further engagements with Ambassador Foti and hope this will not be your last visit to Kaduna.”

The visit from the Italian Embassy is seen as a timely boost to Kaduna’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investments. The state has already secured $4.3 billion worth of investments through KADIPA since its establishment in 2015.

Deputy Governor Balarabe expressed confidence that the visit would lead to productive partnerships that would enhance Kaduna’s economic development. She concluded, “We are excited about the potential for collaboration and look forward to working with the Italian Embassy to explore areas of mutual interest and benefit.”

With growing efforts to attract international investors, Kaduna State is optimistic that this partnership with Italy could be a significant step forward in advancing its economic growth.
