KANO STATE CONDEMNS KILLING OF TRAVELLERS IN EDO, DEMANDS JUSTICE
Government Calls for Prosecution of All Involved in “Heinous Act” of Mob Violence
The Kano State Government has issued a strong condemnation of the recent mob attack and killing of travellers in Edo State who were accused of kidnapping.
In an official statement released on Saturday and signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, the state government described the incident as a “heinous act” while calling for decisive action from security agencies and the judiciary.
“All individuals found to be complicit in this atrocity must be brought to justice, including any law enforcement personnel who may have neglected their duty,” the statement declared.
The Commissioner emphasized that the incident reflects an “alarming increase in extrajudicial killings” across Nigeria, warning that such actions undermine the rule of law and threaten national security.
Waiya specifically called on President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to “denounce this act unequivocally” and demonstrate their commitment to justice by ensuring swift prosecution of the perpetrators through fair trials.
“The Uromi tragedy, sadly, is not an isolated event but part of a broader and alarming trend of vigilante violence across the nation. This culture of impunity can only be countered by decisive action—both punitive and preventive—to reestablish the rule of law,” the statement continued.
KIIN360 News recalls that Governor Okpebholo had earlier condemned the mob attack, promising that those responsible would face the full weight of the law.
The Kano government’s statement also reminded Nigerian authorities of their “unequivocal obligation under international law to protect the rights and lives of all citizens,” while demanding preventive measures to avert similar incidents in the future.
The incident has sparked nationwide concern about the rising cases of jungle justice and vigilantism in various parts of the country.
