Lagos-Calabar Highway to Reduce Logistics Cost by 15% – NOA

Abuja, Nigeria – June 15, 2025

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has said that the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will cut logistics and transportation costs by at least 15 percent upon completion.

Speaking at a public sensitisation event in Abuja on Saturday, the Director-General of the agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the project as a major step toward boosting economic growth and easing movement of goods along the southern corridor of the country.

“The Lagos-Calabar highway is not just an infrastructure project; it is a critical economic enabler,” Issa-Onilu stated. “Preliminary assessments show that it will reduce logistics costs by about 15 percent, particularly for businesses moving goods between coastal states.”

He noted that the highway will enhance regional integration, open up rural communities, and create jobs across multiple sectors including construction, trade, tourism, and agriculture.

The 700-kilometre highway, which is expected to link Lagos with Cross River State, passing through key cities like Port Harcourt and Uyo, has been a subject of public discourse since construction commenced earlier this year.

NOA urged Nigerians to support the project, highlighting the long-term economic benefits it is expected to deliver.
