Lagos Commissioner Inspects Industrial Leather Hub Ahead of Commissioning

The Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, on Monday led a high-level delegation on an inspection visit to the Lagos State Industrial Leather Hub located in Matori, Mushin Local Government Area.

The visit, which comes ahead of the hub’s official commissioning by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was aimed at conducting final assessments and ensuring the facility is ready for operations.

Hon. Ajigbotafe was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, ESV Olayinka Adebayo Wasiu, alongside other senior ministry officials. During the tour, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to economic empowerment through industrial capacity building.

“This leather hub is a strategic investment in the value chain of leather production in Lagos State,” Ajigbotafe stated. “It is designed not only to empower artisans but to drive innovation, enhance local manufacturing, and create employment opportunities for our teeming youth population.”

The Industrial Leather Hub is part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s broader initiative to revamp vocational and artisanal sectors by creating sustainable platforms for skilled workers and entrepreneurs. The facility is expected to serve as a central point for training, production, and distribution of high-quality leather goods.

Upon completion, the hub will house state-of-the-art equipment and provide access to raw materials, capacity building, and market linkage support for leather workers.

Stakeholders in the leather industry have lauded the initiative, describing it as a game-changer for local production and export potential in Lagos State.
