Abuja – The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially certified Starwing Aviation Limited as a licensed operator of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), marking a significant milestone in the country’s growing drone technology sector. The RPAS Operations Certificate (ROC) was formally presented to Starwing Aviation on June 3, 2025, at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja, underscoring the regulator’s commitment to upholding safety while facilitating ease of doing business within the aviation industry.
The presentation ceremony was led by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, who described the certification as a major achievement not only for Starwing Aviation but for the Nigerian drone ecosystem at large. Capt. Najomo emphasized the importance of maintaining strict compliance with regulatory standards as a prerequisite for sustaining the certificate and ensuring ongoing operational safety.
Engr. Godwin Balang, Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards at NCAA, provided insight into the meticulous certification process the company underwent to secure approval. He highlighted key operational safety considerations such as security protocols and bird strike prevention measures that are integral to RPAS operations and critical to safeguarding Nigeria’s airspace.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Harold Demuren lauded the NCAA for taking this pivotal step towards positioning Nigeria as a leading hub for drone operations across Africa.
