Lagos Confirms 2025 Public Service Exam Dates, Reaffirms Commitment to Civil Service Reform

The Lagos State Government has officially confirmed that the 2025 public service examinations will be held as scheduled from May 13 to 19, 2025, in a bid to further strengthen professional standards within the state’s civil service. The announcement was made by the Office of the Head of Service, affirming the administration’s commitment to fostering competence, merit, and excellence across its workforce.

The examinations, which will take place at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) in Magodo, are designed to assess the capacity and readiness of civil servants for career progression and administrative responsibilities. The tests serve as a core component of the state’s broader public sector reform strategy, aimed at ensuring that only qualified personnel ascend within the service.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Service Examinations, the exams are open to eligible officers across various cadres, including administrative officers, executive officers, and other senior staff members seeking promotion. The exercise will cover critical areas such as public administration, civil service rules, government policies, and financial regulations.

Speaking on the forthcoming examination, Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, emphasised the importance of continuous learning and professional development in public service delivery. He noted that the government remains committed to building a highly-skilled and responsive workforce capable of driving Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ development agenda.

“This exercise is not merely a routine procedure; it is an essential part of building a knowledge-driven public service that is efficient, accountable, and people-oriented,” Agoro stated. “We urge all participants to prepare thoroughly and approach the exams with the seriousness it deserves.”

The Head of Service also assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth, transparent, and fair process. He disclosed that examination materials have been updated in line with current realities and global best practices, while strict adherence to ethical standards will be enforced throughout the exercise.

As Lagos continues to lead reforms in civil service professionalism and capacity development, the 2025 public service exams are expected to further instil a culture of meritocracy and excellence, reinforcing the state’s position as a model for efficient governance in Nigeria.
