The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has called for deeper collaboration between the state government and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB), Lagos Chapter, as part of efforts to promote industry growth and effectively project Lagos’s achievements to the wider public.
Omotoso made the call during an engagement with members of the association in Lagos, where he highlighted the critical role of broadcasters in shaping public opinion, disseminating accurate information, and safeguarding the values of professionalism in journalism.
He urged practitioners to remain committed to ethical standards and objectivity in their reportage, stressing that the integrity of the broadcast industry is essential to sustaining public trust.
“Broadcasting is not just about relaying information; it is about shaping narratives and ensuring that the public gets the right message. Lagos has made giant strides in infrastructure, economy, health, and education, and we need professionals like you to tell our stories responsibly and truthfully,” Omotoso said.
He assured the SNB that the Lagos State Government would continue to support initiatives that enhance media development, capacity building, and technological advancement in the sector.
The Commissioner also encouraged broadcasters to leverage digital platforms to expand their reach, especially to young audiences who rely heavily on new media for news and entertainment.
Responding, the leadership of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, Lagos Chapter, pledged to work closely with the state government in amplifying its developmental efforts while ensuring that the principles of accuracy, balance, and fairness remain central in their practice.
The meeting underscored the mutual recognition that collaboration between government and broadcasters is vital to sustaining industry growth and fostering a better-informed society.
