Lagos Information Commissioner Tasks Public Affairs Officers on Digital Dominance

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has charged Public Affairs Officers (PAOs) across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to assert greater presence and influence in the digital media space.

Speaking at a strategic engagement session with PAOs in Alausa, Ikeja, Omotoso emphasized the critical role of public communication in shaping public perception and promoting government policies. He urged the officers to adopt innovative digital communication tools and strategies in order to efficiently disseminate information and counter misinformation.

“It is time for our Public Affairs Officers to dominate the digital space with positive narratives about the state government’s activities,” Omotoso said. “Our goal is to ensure that citizens are informed, engaged, and empowered with accurate and timely information.”

He highlighted the administration’s commitment to transparency and inclusiveness, noting that effective digital communication plays a vital role in deepening public trust.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Olumide Sogunle, reaffirmed the ministry’s support for the officers. He encouraged them to utilize available platforms and resources to improve content creation, real-time engagement, and crisis communication.

The session, which brought together communication heads from various MDAs, also focused on building synergy, strategic messaging, and capacity building for improved public service delivery.
