LASG Reiterates Importance of Good Sanitation Practices Among Residents

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has once again emphasized the need for residents to uphold proper sanitation habits as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier environment across the state.

Speaking during a sensitization campaign held on Friday, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, urged residents to take responsibility for their surroundings by adopting sustainable waste management practices and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

Wahab noted that maintaining a clean environment is critical to preventing outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, malaria, and other sanitation-related illnesses, especially with the rainy season approaching. He reiterated that environmental cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the government, but a shared duty among all citizens.

The Commissioner also warned that the state’s environmental enforcement agencies, including the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), will intensify monitoring and clamp down on violators of sanitation laws.

He further called on community development associations, religious institutions, and schools to support the state’s campaign for a clean and livable Lagos by organizing periodic clean-up exercises and sanitation awareness programmes.

The Lagos State Government continues to roll out initiatives aimed at improving environmental hygiene, including the deployment of waste bins in strategic locations and the engagement of private sector participants in waste collection and disposal.
