LASPPPA Cautions Against Building Under Power Lines, Warns of Safety Breaches

Lagos, Nigeria – July , 2025 — The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has issued a stern warning to residents, developers, and property owners against erecting buildings or conducting any form of development under or near high-tension power lines, citing grave safety and regulatory concerns.

The warning was issued following a series of monitoring and enforcement exercises carried out across various parts of the state where illegal constructions were found dangerously close to power transmission infrastructure.

General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, emphasized that such activities not only violate physical planning laws but also endanger lives and property. He stressed that the Authority, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to a safe and livable environment, would not hesitate to demolish structures violating setback regulations.

He stated, “It is illegal and life-threatening to construct buildings beneath high-tension lines. The State Government will continue to enforce all regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies caused by electrical hazards.”

Osinaike also called on professional builders, landlords, and developers to always obtain proper planning permits before embarking on any construction and to adhere strictly to safety standards and right-of-way requirements.

He warned that further violations would attract severe sanctions, including demolition and prosecution, as the state government remains resolute in upholding public safety and environmental sanity.
