Leishman Claims First LIV Golf Individual Title in Miami

Marc Leishman secured his first individual title in LIV Golf, edging out South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel by one stroke in the final round at LIV Miami. The 41-year-old Australian finished the tournament with a six-under-par total, after shooting a solid four-under 68 on the final day.

Leishman, who was three shots behind Bryson DeChambeau at the start of the day, began his round with a birdie on the first hole, setting the tone for the rest of his round. He added birdies on the fourth, eighth, and tenth holes, while a string of eight pars saw him maintain his lead to finish ahead of Schwartzel, who carded a 66 at the Blue Monster Course at Trump National Doral in Florida.

“I saw all the guys right behind me, and I knew the holes I had to finish up on,” Leishman said. “I played probably some of my best golf I’ve ever played today.”

Schwartzel finished in second place at five-under, while former Masters champion Sergio Garcia came in third at four-under. DeChambeau, who was the leader heading into the final day, ended up finishing at two-under, two strokes behind Leishman. Three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson finished at one-under, while 2023 Masters winner Jon Rahm ended his round at one-over.

Leishman’s win came as several LIV Golf players, including Schwartzel and Garcia, are preparing for the upcoming Masters tournament. Despite his victory, Leishman will not be participating in this year’s Masters, as he is not part of the LIV contingent competing at Augusta.

Several notable LIV players will be in action at the Masters, including DeChambeau, who qualified through his US Open exemption, and other past Masters champions such as Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, and Phil Mickelson. Other LIV golfers at the Masters will include Brooks Koepka, Joaquin Niemann, Patrick Reed, and Charl Schwartzel, alongside several other prominent names like Cameron Smith and Bubba Watson, who also earned special exemptions or past champion status.

This win marks a significant achievement for Leishman in his LIV Golf career and sets the stage for a strong performance in the upcoming tournaments.
