LG Poll: Voting Begins at Sanwo-Olu’s Polling Unit on Lagos Island

Voting officially commenced on Saturday morning at Polling Unit 007, located within St. Stephens Nursery and Primary School, Adeniji Adele on Lagos Island, where Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to cast his vote in the ongoing local government elections.

At exactly 8am, electoral officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission arrived at the polling unit and began setting up materials for the day’s exercise. The early commencement aligns with the timetable set by LASIEC for elections across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.

Kiin360 gathered that the activity is a calm and organized atmosphere as voters gradually arrived to perform their civic duty. Security operatives, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force, were seen stationed at the venue to maintain peace and ensure the smooth conduct of the voting process.

The election, which seeks to produce new chairmen and councillors across Lagos State, is seen as a crucial step in strengthening local governance and grassroots development.

Among the early voters at the polling unit was Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the governor, who cast his vote shortly after the process commenced.

Governor Sanwo-Olu is expected to vote later in the day as part of his civic responsibility and to encourage residents to participate actively in the grassroots democratic exercise.

The election day restrictions and security arrangements underscore the importance of the local government system, which is closest to the people and responsible for addressing immediate community needs such as sanitation, road maintenance, health centers, and primary education.

Lagosians are being urged to take advantage of the opportunity to vote for credible leaders who can deliver meaningful change at the local level. As the day progresses, voting is expected to continue across polling units in the state until the close of polls, with collation and announcement of results to follow.

Kiin360 will continue to provide real-time updates as events unfold across the state.
