The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the full operational launch of the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), now recognized as one of the leading institutions of its kind in Africa.
Speaking at a ministerial press briefing in Abuja, Keyamo emphasized the university’s significance in advancing aviation and aerospace education across the continent.
“When we assumed office, the African Aviation and Aerospace University was still in its early stages, with no admissions or full-scale operations. However, I am pleased to report that the university has now fully taken off and is already positioning itself as a premier aviation and aerospace institution in Africa,” he stated.
Growing Popularity and Infrastructure Development
Keyamo encouraged prospective students to take advantage of the institution’s unique programs, emphasizing that the university has received overwhelming interest from applicants.
“We have seen a remarkable surge in applications, exceeding our initial expectations. The demand is so high that we are now working to expand our capacity. Additionally, our permanent site is nearing completion, which will further enhance our ability to accommodate more students,” he added.
He explained that the university initially began operations within the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau’s building but is now transitioning to its dedicated campus, which is progressing swiftly towards completion.
Nigeria’s Airports Recognized for Excellence in Emergency Response
In addition to celebrating AAAU’s launch, the minister announced that Nigeria’s Abuja and Port Harcourt airports have received international recognition for their excellence in emergency response and safety management.
“The Airport Council International (ACI), a globally recognized aviation body, recently held its annual conference to assess improvements in airports worldwide. I am proud to announce that both Abuja and Port Harcourt airports received the prestigious ACI Award for Outstanding Dedication to Emergency Management and Rescue Operations,” Keyamo revealed.
He highlighted that this award underscores Nigeria’s commitment to aviation safety, emergency preparedness, and adherence to international best practices.
“Our emergency response systems, including fire services and ground staff readiness, were thoroughly evaluated and ranked as the best in Africa. This achievement reaffirms our commitment to ensuring that our airports maintain the highest safety standards,” he added.
Commitment to Advancing the Aviation Sector
Keyamo reiterated the government’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s aviation sector through enhanced infrastructure, safety measures, and educational advancements. He expressed optimism that with continued investments, Nigeria will strengthen its position as a leader in African aviation.
“The achievements of AAAU and our airports receiving global recognition are just the beginning. We are dedicated to further advancements that will solidify Nigeria’s standing in the global aviation industry,” he concluded.
The launch of AAAU and the ACI award for Abuja and Port Harcourt airports mark significant milestones in Nigeria’s aviation sector, reflecting the government’s commitment to excellence in education, safety, and infrastructure development.
