In a strategic move to enhance educational access and redefine the learning experience for students across Nigeria, Miva Open University has officially unveiled its Lagos Study Centre. The inauguration ceremony, which took place today in the Yaba area of Lagos, marks a significant milestone in the institution’s growing footprint and commitment to delivering flexible, student-centric education.
The Lagos Study Centre is designed to serve as a vibrant academic hub, offering learners a blend of digital and physical resources to support their educational journey. According to the university, this initiative is part of its broader vision to promote accessibility, adaptability, and community engagement in the higher education space, particularly for students who seek a modern approach to learning.
Speaking during the announcement, the Chancellor of Miva Open University, Mr. Sim Shagaya, described the centre as a reflection of the university’s mission to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. He noted that the institution prioritises flexibility and accessibility, while also cultivating a strong sense of community among learners. “This centre is a testament to our belief that learning should be flexible, accessible, and supported by a community that encourages growth,” Shagaya said.
In addition to academic infrastructure, the university revealed that the new centre has been carefully designed with student wellness in mind. Lifestyle-enhancing features have been integrated into the facility to promote a holistic educational experience. Mr. Shagaya added that Miva Open University remains deeply committed to ensuring students thrive not just academically, but personally and socially as well.
Registrar of the university, Mr. Iheanyi Akwitti, also shared insights into the facility’s offerings, highlighting the availability of advanced learning tools and conducive study spaces. “From modern study rooms to state-of-the-art computer facilities, we are providing a space that is not only conducive to learning but also supports their well-being,” he said.
Among the key features of the new Lagos Study Centre are a cutting-edge digital E-Library, a fully equipped CBT (Computer-Based Testing) centre with 197 computers, as well as quiet, well-structured reading areas tailored for both individual and group study sessions. These amenities have been carefully curated to support academic excellence while fostering collaboration and focus.
The establishment of the Lagos centre reinforces Miva Open University’s unique blended learning model, which combines the flexibility of online instruction with the tangible support of in-person resources. According to a statement from the institution, the Lagos centre is only the beginning of a nationwide expansion plan that will see similar facilities rolled out across Nigeria to further democratise access to quality education.
With this launch, Miva Open University is positioning itself as a forward-thinking institution that not only embraces the future of digital learning but also recognises the enduring importance of physical spaces where students can connect, collaborate, and grow.
