Naira Gains Against Euro Amid France’s Economic Turmoil

Abuja, Nigeria | September 10, 2025

The naira strengthened against the euro on Tuesday, benefiting from ongoing socio-economic instability in France that has rattled the European Union’s financial markets.

Data from the Nigerian official market showed the euro/naira exchange rate closing at N1,765/€, an improvement from N1,775/€ recorded the previous week. Analysts attribute the development to weakened investor confidence in the euro, triggered by France’s economic unrest, which has put additional pressure on the common currency.

Currency traders noted that the naira’s performance against the euro reflects not only external market shifts but also sustained domestic support measures by Nigeria’s monetary authorities aimed at stabilizing the exchange rate.

Economists, however, cautioned that the naira’s resilience remains fragile, emphasizing that longer-term sustainability will depend on Nigeria’s fiscal discipline, improved export earnings, and foreign exchange liquidity.
