The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a strong warning to the public against falling victim to a fraudulent scheme involving fake postgraduate scholarship offers falsely attributed to the Commission.
In a statement released on Sunday, May 4, 2025, and signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the NDDC disowned a circulating email being sent from “[email protected].” The email invites unsuspecting applicants to a fictitious document verification exercise scheduled to take place between May 19 and 21, 2025, at an address in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Commission described the scholarship claims as entirely false and warned Nigerians to be wary of any communication or offer that does not emanate from its official communication channels.
“The general public is advised to disregard any invitation for a scholarship verification exercise outside the Commission’s known processes. All legitimate information concerning the NDDC’s Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme is published on our official website: www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng,” the statement read.
Thompson-Wakama further emphasized that the Commission does not charge applicants any fees or use unofficial email addresses for its scholarship activities. She urged anyone who receives suspicious messages or offers in the name of NDDC to report such communications to the appropriate security agencies for prompt action.
The NDDC’s warning comes in light of growing reports from the public about scam messages being circulated by fraudsters aiming to exploit the credibility of the Commission’s scholarship programme.
As part of its commitment to transparency and integrity, the NDDC reiterated that all updates about the Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme would be published on its official platforms. It also encouraged Nigerians to verify any doubtful communication by contacting the Commission directly through www.nddc.gov.ng.
The NDDC’s Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Programme remains a reputable initiative designed to build human capacity in the Niger Delta region by supporting the education of qualified youths in various disciplines across top institutions globally.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public from fraudulent schemes and ensuring that genuine beneficiaries of its programmes are selected through credible and transparent processes.
