NEMA Launches 2025 Disaster Preparedness Campaign in Osun State

Osogbo, Nigeria – June 15, 2025

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has officially launched its 2025 Disaster Preparedness Campaign in Osun State, as part of nationwide efforts to strengthen community resilience against natural and man-made disasters.

The campaign, flagged off by the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, was held in Osogbo and brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Osun State Government, traditional rulers, emergency responders, and civil society organizations.

Speaking at the event, the DG emphasized the importance of proactive disaster risk reduction, especially as the country braces for potential flooding and climate-related emergencies. She noted that Osun State had been identified as one of the states vulnerable to seasonal floods and urged residents to adopt early warning and response measures.

“This campaign aims to equip local communities with vital knowledge on how to respond effectively to emergencies and mitigate the impact of disasters,” Umar said.

The campaign features sensitization programs, distribution of emergency materials, simulation exercises, and capacity-building workshops for local emergency committees and volunteers.

In his remarks, Osun State Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi commended NEMA’s initiative and reiterated the state government’s commitment to collaborating with federal agencies to safeguard lives and property.

The campaign will also extend to schools, markets, and high-risk areas across the state in the coming weeks.
