Nigeria Publishes Tax Reform Laws, Sets Stage for Overhaul of Fiscal Framework

Abuja, Nigeria | September 9, 2025

Nigeria has officially published its long-awaited tax reform laws in the government gazette, a landmark step towards restructuring the nation’s fiscal framework.

The sweeping reforms, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on June 26, 2025, introduce a modernized structure for taxation, administration, and revenue collection across Africa’s largest economy.

Confirming the development in a post on his official X handle, Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, said the laws are designed to simplify Nigeria’s tax system, boost compliance, and foster a more business-friendly environment.

The reforms come amid Nigeria’s push to widen its revenue base, reduce overdependence on crude oil earnings, and strengthen economic resilience. Analysts say the measures could significantly improve government revenue while easing the burden on taxpayers through a clearer, more transparent framework.
