Nigerian athlete Prestina Ochonogor made a stunning outdoor NCAA debut for Tarleton State, securing second place in the women’s long jump at the prestigious Texas Relays. Ochonogor leaped an impressive 6.48m (nwi) on her second attempt, finishing just one centimeter behind event winner American Jasmine Akins.

New School Record and International Recognition

With this result, Ochonogor set a new long jump school record in her Texas Relays debut. The 18-year-old has rapidly risen through the ranks as one of Nigeria’s brightest athletics talents. She made her international breakthrough at the 2023 African Games in Ghana, winning bronze with a leap of 6.67m. Ochonogor qualified for the Paris Olympics, making history as part of a Nigerian trio that reached the women’s long jump final.
