The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has marked two years of unprecedented achievements under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, who assumed office in 2023. Her tenure has been widely hailed for bringing transformative reforms to Nigeria’s identity management system.
A major milestone recorded is the successful registration of over 120 million Nigerians with the National Identification Number (NIN), a feat attributed to widespread enrollment campaigns and improved operational efficiency.
To enhance accessibility and reduce delays, the Commission deployed over 800 mobile enrollment devices across the country, including hard-to-reach rural areas. In addition, diaspora enrollment centers have been expanded to ensure Nigerians abroad are seamlessly integrated into the national database.
Under Coker-Odusote’s stewardship, NIMC also introduced streamlined and digitized processes that drastically cut down waiting time and improved data integrity. This digital revamp has strengthened collaboration with financial institutions, telecom operators, and government agencies, ensuring the NIN becomes central to national planning and service delivery.
Speaking on the achievements, Engr. Dr. Coker-Odusote expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support and reiterated her commitment to driving innovation and inclusiveness.
“We are proud of how far we’ve come, but our mission is far from over. Every Nigerian deserves a secure, verifiable identity that empowers access to services and economic opportunity,” she stated.
Her performance has positioned NIMC as a key player in Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, with strong prospects for universal identity coverage by 2026.
