NSCDC Deploys 4,500 Personnel to Secure Abuja Ahead of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has deployed 4,500 personnel to guarantee the safety of residents and critical infrastructure during the nation’s 65th Independence Day celebration in Abuja.

The FCT Command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the deployment was ordered by the Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, to provide adequate surveillance before, during, and after the anniversary.

According to Odumosu, the personnel were drawn from different specialized units of the Corps, including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) unit. He explained that the deployment also covers identified black spots such as uncompleted buildings that could serve as hideouts for criminals.

“All Area Commanders and Divisional Officers must ensure their presence is felt across the area councils to prevent any security lapses. I will not tolerate any form of breach, so ensure personnel are adequately deployed,” he said.

Odumosu further charged officers to conduct themselves professionally and work in synergy with other security agencies, stressing that harassment, intimidation, or accidental discharge would not be tolerated. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.

While wishing FCT residents a joyous Independence Day celebration, the Commandant encouraged them to continue to have faith in the country and pray for Nigeria’s progress.

Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960. This year’s anniversary, themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” is being marked with a series of activities, including prayers at mosques and churches.
