The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has deployed 4,000 personnel across Abuja to ensure security during the upcoming Eid-Fitr celebrations.
FCT NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, ordered the deployment to protect lives, property, and critical national infrastructure throughout the festive period.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, emphasized that the deployment covers all areas of the FCT, ensuring proactive security measures before, during, and after the celebrations.
Strategic Deployment for Maximum Security
The operation includes officers from specialized units such as the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adkasu, Counter-Terrorism, and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives. These personnel will focus on securing high-risk locations, including prayer grounds, shopping malls, markets, recreational centers, and government buildings.
Special attention is also being given to motor parks, amusement centers, and diplomatic areas, with covert operations and intelligence-gathering already underway to preempt any security threats.
Targeting Crime Hotspots
The NSCDC has identified crime-prone areas, including uncompleted buildings often used as hideouts for criminals, and has intensified monitoring efforts in these locations.
Odumosu has instructed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to remain on high alert, stressing that he will not tolerate any security lapses.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches—ensure your personnel are adequately deployed,” he stated.
Public Cooperation and Inter-Agency Collaboration
The Commandant reaffirmed the need for synergy among security agencies, urging officers to uphold professionalism, respect citizens’ rights, and maintain discipline while carrying out their duties.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, assuring them that NSCDC operatives are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful and secure Eid celebration.
Lastly, Odumosu sent a stern warning to criminal elements, stating that security operatives are closely monitoring movements across the capital city and will act decisively against any threats to public safety or critical national infrastructure.
