In a move to boost youth employment and technological self-reliance, the Ogun State Government has partnered with technology firm, Cybervilla, to train young residents in mobile phone and electronic device repairs.
The initiative, which aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s agenda to reduce unemployment and promote digital literacy across the state, was unveiled during a joint press briefing held in Abeokuta on Friday.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare, said the training programme will equip hundreds of youths with hands-on technical skills in mobile phone repairs, diagnostics, and basic electronics maintenance.
“This partnership is part of our commitment to investing in our youths. We are not only creating jobs but enabling a generation that can innovate, solve problems, and generate income from acquired skills,” he noted.
Cybervilla’s CEO, Mrs. Tolu Ajayi, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that the training will expose participants to industry-grade tools and practical knowledge that will make them competitive in Nigeria’s growing tech repair industry.
“The digital economy cannot grow without grassroots participation. Teaching youths how to fix and service the very devices they use daily is both empowering and economically sustainable,” Ajayi added.
The training is expected to run in phases, beginning with 500 youths drawn from the state’s three senatorial districts. Beneficiaries will receive starter toolkits and certifications upon completion, enhancing their chances of self-employment and business creation.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue leveraging partnerships with private sector players to unlock the potentials of Ogun’s vibrant youth population.
