Ogun State, Nigeria – July 4, 2025
The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, has officially handed over a large cache of cannabis sativa valued at ₦172 million to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the country.
The contraband, comprising hundreds of compressed cannabis packages, was seized during a series of anti-smuggling operations conducted along the state’s border corridors and flashpoints notorious for illicit trade activities.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the Command’s headquarters in Idiroko, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller James Ojo, stated that the seizures reflect the Command’s zero-tolerance approach towards all forms of smuggling, particularly drugs that pose serious threats to national security and public health.
“This handover underscores our strong inter-agency collaboration and determination to rid our society of dangerous substances. The Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to disrupting the supply chain of narcotics and other illegal imports,” he said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the NDLEA, Commander of Narcotics, Mr. Samuel Gadzama, commended the Customs for their vigilance and swift action. He assured that the agency would follow up with appropriate investigations and legal actions against those involved.
He further highlighted that such cooperation between security agencies is essential to winning the war against drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.
The event was attended by representatives of other security agencies, traditional rulers, and members of the press, who applauded the synergy between Customs and NDLEA in safeguarding communities from the dangers of illicit drugs.
