The Ogun State Government has taken decisive action against four companies operating within its jurisdiction, sealing their premises over various environmental violations. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta by Mr. Luke Adebesin, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA).
According to the statement, the enforcement exercise is part of the state’s ongoing commitment to upholding environmental standards and protecting host communities from health and ecological hazards associated with industrial operations. Mr. Adebesin quoted the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and head of OGEPA, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, who emphasized that industries within the state must strictly adhere to operational guidelines and environmental regulations as prescribed by law.
Among the affected companies are Fortune Height Farms Limited and Sanda Wood Industry Limited, both located in the Odogbolu Local Government Area. Also sealed were Shengceramic Material Limited, situated around the Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and Nehemiah Grace Developer Limited in Ijako, under Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The action taken against Fortune Height Farms Limited, a facility involved in egg and catfish production, followed a formal complaint from members of its host community, alleging the discharge of untreated waste into the surrounding environment. Officials from the environmental agency, upon investigation, confirmed the violation and subsequently ordered the facility’s closure to prevent further contamination.
In the case of Sanda Wood Industry Limited, the company was sealed for obstructing government officials from conducting an inspection of its premises. The firm was also found to be involved in open burning—a practice deemed harmful and illegal under the state’s environmental laws.
Nehemiah Grace Developer Limited was similarly sanctioned after it was discovered to be illegally encroaching on waterway paths and constructing drainage channels without obtaining the necessary approvals or permits from relevant state authorities. The agency described this as a dangerous practice that could lead to flooding and severe environmental degradation.
Shengceramic Material Limited’s offence, while not fully detailed in the statement, was cited under the general breach of environmental standards, prompting the immediate sealing of its premises.
Hon. Akintunde reiterated the state’s zero tolerance for environmental negligence, warning that Ogun would not hesitate to clamp down on any establishment found contravening the state’s environmental safety laws. He stressed that the Dapo Abiodun-led administration is committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment for residents across the state.
The environmental watchdog assured the public that monitoring and enforcement operations will continue, and that industries must prioritize ecological responsibility as a non-negotiable aspect of doing business in Ogun State.
