Ogun State’s New Airport Takes Off October 7th

ABEOKUTA, Ogun State – In a major boost for business and travel in South-West Nigeria, the brand-new Gateway International Airport in Ogun State is set to begin passenger operations on October 7th.

The state government made the exciting announcement on Friday, revealing that Value Jet Airline will be the first carrier to operate from the new facility, located along the Ilisan-Iperu Remo road.

Flights will initially run twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursday, on the route connecting the Gateway International Airport (GWI) directly to Abuja.

Here is the Simple Flight Schedule:

To Abuja: Depart GWI at 8:30 AM, Arrive in Abuja at 9:45 AM.

Return Flight: Depart Abuja at 4:00 PM, Arrive back at GWI at 5:15 PM.

Tickets are already on sale online, through travel agents, and at the airport’s ticket desk.

This new airport is a game-changer for thousands of travellers based in Ibadan, across Ogun State, and even in Lagos. It offers a convenient and modern alternative for flying to Abuja and connecting to other parts of the country, bypassing the often-congested roads to Lagos airports.

Governor Dapo Abiodun had earlier announced that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) gave the airport full approval after a thorough inspection. The agency reportedly praised the airport as a “model for future aviation infrastructure in Nigeria.”

In a futuristic twist, the governor also revealed that a global logistics firm has committed to operating two weekly cargo flights from London to the Ogun airport, which will significantly boost import and export activities in the industrial-heavy state.

The Gateway International Airport is also designated as an alternate landing site for Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport, increasing its strategic importance for the entire nation’s air travel system.
