Opposition Leaders Unite to Challenge Tinubu in 2027; APC Dismisses Coalition

Key opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (Labour Party), and Nasir El-Rufai (former Kaduna State Governor), have announced the formation of a coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

At a press conference held at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Atiku Abubakar confirmed the coalition’s formation, stating, “Yes, this is the birth of the coalition of opposition ahead of 2027.” Peter Obi, represented by Yunusa Tanko, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the coalition’s goal of “liberating the Nigerian people.”

The coalition’s leaders stressed that their efforts would focus on addressing critical governance issues, including power supply, security, and education. They also condemned what they perceived as attacks on democratic principles.

While the coalition’s specific platform and name are yet to be revealed, discussions among opposition leaders have intensified, involving politicians from various parties.

PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, urged PDP leaders to be flexible and accommodating in the coalition talks, emphasizing the importance of removing the APC from power.
However, the ruling APC has dismissed the coalition as mere speculation. APC Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, characterized Atiku as a “serial contestant and a serial loser,” and advised him to allow other coalition members to speak for themselves. Ibrahim downplayed the coalition’s significance, stating, “we won’t lose sleep over it.” and said that there is a big difference between “rhetoric and action.”
