PDP Governors Hold Crucial Strategy Meeting in Abuja Amid National Concerns

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, May 12, 2025, gathered in Abuja for the fifth meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) for the year, as the party intensifies efforts to reposition itself ahead of future political contests.

The meeting was held at the Conference Room of the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro District, and was chaired by the Forum’s chairman and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed.

In attendance were several PDP governors from across the federation, alongside senior aides and party officials. While the Forum has yet to release a full communiqué detailing the outcomes of the closed-door meeting, party insiders confirmed that discussions focused on the country’s worsening economic situation, increasing insecurity, and the need for a more coordinated opposition front.

Sources also disclosed that the governors deliberated on internal party cohesion, strategies to address recent defections, and mechanisms to strengthen PDP-controlled states through improved governance and policy delivery.

The meeting comes at a time when Nigerians are grappling with economic hardships, high inflation, and security threats across various regions. The PDP governors, under the platform of the Forum, have consistently criticised the policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government, calling for urgent reforms and citizen-focused policies.

Speaking briefly before the meeting went into a closed session, Governor Bala Mohammed reiterated the PDP governors’ collective resolve to “continue defending the interests of the Nigerian people, deepening democracy, and delivering good governance in their respective states.”

The PDP Governors’ Forum has become a significant bloc within the party, often serving as a rallying point for major decisions and offering direction on party affairs. With the next general elections approaching in 2027, party leaders believe unity among its governors and elected officials is vital to reclaiming national power.
