Plateau Dairy Farmers Protest Alleged Diversion of ₦441 Million Fund

Jos, Plateau State | September 8, 2025

Dairy farmers in Plateau State on Monday staged a protest over what they described as the diversion of ₦441 million earmarked for the development of the dairy sector in the state.

The aggrieved farmers, under the aegis of Plateau State Dairy Cooperative Association, accused government officials and intermediaries of mismanaging the fund, which they said was intended to improve milk production, provide modern equipment, and boost farmers’ livelihoods.

Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the farmers converged on Jos, demanding accountability and immediate intervention from both the state and federal authorities. They alleged that despite public assurances, many beneficiaries never received the support promised, while others claimed the funds were diverted to ghost projects.

One of the protesting farmers, Ibrahim Musa, said: “We were promised support that would transform dairy farming in Plateau, but till today nothing has reached us. Our cows are suffering, our businesses are collapsing, and yet we hear the money has been spent.”

The farmers appealed to Governor Caleb Mutfwang and President Bola Tinubu to order a probe into the alleged diversion and ensure that the resources reach the intended beneficiaries.

Officials from the state Ministry of Agriculture are yet to respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
