President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reviving Nigeria’s agricultural sector, declaring that bold steps are being taken to reposition the country as a major player in global food production. The President made this known on Monday, June 23, 2025, during the official launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Abuja, an initiative aimed at modernising Nigeria’s farming practices and creating a vibrant agro-economy that appeals to the younger generation.
Addressing stakeholders at the flag-off ceremony, President Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government has already procured over 2,000 state-of-the-art tractors, 50 bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 assorted farming tools, all of which will be deployed to enhance agricultural output and reduce the burden of manual labour on farmers. He noted that the era of outdated, backbreaking farming techniques was coming to an end under his leadership.
“This initiative is not just about machines. It’s about making agriculture a productive and attractive venture, especially for our youth. We are going to make farming easier, more profitable, and, yes, even sexier for our young people,” President Tinubu stated, drawing cheers from attendees.
The President further disclosed that the programme is being implemented in collaboration with foreign partners, including the Republic of Belarus, where select Nigerian youths will undergo training in modern agricultural practices, machine operation, and equipment maintenance. According to him, the partnership will help build technical capacity among the youth and empower them with practical skills that guarantee financial independence and long-term sustainability.
Tinubu, while stressing accountability, warned that the equipment would not be distributed indiscriminately. He charged all beneficiaries, whether individuals, cooperatives, or state institutions—to put the machinery to proper use and deliver measurable results in their respective domains.
“We will supervise this process. Every tractor, every bulldozer must be accounted for. If you collect these tools, be ready to work. We will hold you responsible for how they are used,” he cautioned.
The President commended the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its proactive approach in tackling food insecurity and putting measures in place to stabilise the nation’s food supply system. He added that the current administration recognises the central role of agriculture in reducing poverty, driving job creation, and strengthening Nigeria’s economy.
“Let today be remembered as the beginning of a new agricultural revolution in our country. We are laying a solid foundation that will guarantee food security for our people and economic prosperity for generations to come,” he declared with optimism.
The Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme is part of President Tinubu’s broader economic blueprint to revitalise the real sector and harness Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential. As Nigeria continues to grapple with the effects of food inflation and supply chain disruptions, this initiative is expected to inject fresh energy into the nation’s agro-industrial landscape and reduce its dependence on food imports.
