President Tinubu Vows to Bring Perpetrators of Plateau Attacks to Justice, Offers Condolences to Victims’ Families

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent spate of violent attacks in Plateau State, describing them as unacceptable and vowing that the perpetrators will face the full weight of the law. The attacks, which targeted Ruwi, Hurti, and Tadai communities in Bokkos Local Government Area, as well as Manguna and Dafo villages, left over 50 people dead and caused extensive destruction of property.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed profound sorrow over the tragic events and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. He also commiserated with the Plateau State Government and Governor Caleb Mutfwang, assuring them of federal support to restore peace and stability in the affected areas.

“The latest attacks on defenceless citizens are unacceptable,” the President stated. “I have directed security agencies to hunt down the attackers, and they will face severe punishment when apprehended. These intermittent acts of violence have no place in our country, especially at a time when we are working tirelessly to restore peace and order.”

President Tinubu emphasized that his administration remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding every Nigerian citizen. He declared that these heinous acts would not deter his government from its mission to eradicate criminal elements across the nation. “This unfortunate incident will not slow us down in our duty to protect every Nigerian. Instead, we will intensify efforts to exterminate forces of evil wherever they are lurking,” he said.

To provide immediate relief to those affected by the attacks, Tinubu directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate with state authorities. The agency is tasked with delivering essential aid, medical assistance, and support for rebuilding efforts in the devastated communities.

The President also called for unity among Nigerians during this challenging time. He urged residents of affected areas to cooperate with security agencies by providing critical information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators. Additionally, he appealed for restraint and discouraged any form of retaliation, emphasizing that peace and stability are essential for national progress.

“No community should have to endure such tragedy,” Tinubu remarked. “We all must unite to foster peace and stability. I urge all citizens—regardless of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations—to uphold our shared humanity, embrace peace, and reject retaliation.”

This tragic episode adds to a series of violent incidents that have plagued Plateau State over the years. The region has experienced recurring clashes fueled by ethno-religious tensions and communal disputes. In response, Northern governors have also condemned the attacks, pledging intensified efforts to address insecurity and promote peaceful coexistence across their states.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has received commendation for his swift response to the crisis. Meanwhile, security agencies have been urged to redouble their efforts in tracking down those responsible for these atrocities.
