Real Madrid in Advanced Talks to Sign Trent Alexander-Arnold on Free Transfer

Real Madrid are reportedly making significant progress in their pursuit of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the England international nearing a move to the Spanish giants upon the expiration of his contract this summer.

According to sources on Tuesday, the 26-year-old defender, whose current deal with Liverpool ends in June, is in advanced discussions with Madrid over a potential free transfer. Alexander-Arnold has been eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs since January, and talks between the player and Real Madrid are said to be progressing positively.

A product of Liverpool’s youth academy, Alexander-Arnold has spent over two decades at Anfield, making his senior debut in 2016 at the age of 18. During his time with the Reds, he has won major honors, including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup. This season, he remains on course for a second league title, with Liverpool currently sitting 12 points clear at the top of the table under manager Arne Slot.

Alexander-Arnold is one of three high-profile Liverpool players whose contracts expire at the end of the season, alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, though neither has yet finalized their future plans.

The right-back is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, which ruled him out of Liverpool’s recent League Cup final defeat to Newcastle.

Liverpool have declined to comment on the transfer speculation.

If the move materializes, Alexander-Arnold would join Real Madrid as one of their marquee signings ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
