Remains of Former President Buhari Set for Final Journey to Daura from London

Reliable sources have confirmed that the body of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, is currently on board a flight expected to depart London for his hometown, Daura, in Katsina State, before 9 a.m. local time .

The former leader, who passed away in the United Kingdom, is being flown back to Nigeria in accordance with Islamic burial rites and longstanding family tradition. Preparations have reportedly been concluded for his final homecoming, where he will be laid to rest among his kinsmen.

Details regarding the funeral proceedings in Daura remain closely guarded, but there is heightened security presence and a flurry of activities in anticipation of the arrival of the late president’s body. Dignitaries, family members, political allies, and residents of the ancient town have begun to gather in solemn readiness for the interment.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State between 1983 and 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, held deep ties to Daura, where he often retreated during his tenure and after his exit from public service.

The aircraft, believed to be a presidential or chartered jet arranged by the Nigerian government or the late president’s family, is expected to touch down at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport, Katsina, before proceeding to Daura under heavy escort.

The federal and Katsina State governments are expected to release official statements and funeral plans in due course, while flags are likely to be flown at half-mast nationwide in honour of the former Nigerian leader.
