Resident Doctors Threaten to Suspend Services at Ebonyi Teaching Hospital Amidst Community Protests

The Association of Resident Doctors at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital in Ebonyi State has threatened to suspend services due to ongoing tension with the host community. The community has been protesting against the hospital’s management since last week, causing unrest that’s affecting patient care.

The doctors are concerned about the impact on their members and the quality of service delivery. They’re calling on authorities to resolve the issues peacefully and restore calm to the hospital as soon as possible.

In a communique signed by the association’s President, Dr. Peace Ebisike, and Secretary, Mathew Nwachukwu, the doctors expressed regret that the situation has hindered effective patient management, ultimately defeating the purpose of establishing the hospital.

The communique reads, “We doctors are concerned about the negative impact of the recent unrest on our members and the quality of service delivery to patients. We express regret that the situation has hindered effective patient management, ultimately defeating the purpose of establishing DUFUTH.”

The association has reaffirmed its support for the hospital’s Management, led by Professor Uzoma Agwu, in seeking the progress of the hospital.

However, they cannot continue to provide services amidst the ongoing tension.
The doctors are urging relevant authorities and stakeholders to intervene and resolve the differences amicably, ensuring the hospital returns to normal operations and provides quality healthcare services to the community
