Rising Truck Movement on Lekki-Epe Corridor Prompts E-Call Up Rollout – LASG

Lagos, Nigeria – June 16, 2025
The Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced the rollout of an electronic call-up (E-call up) system to regulate and manage the increasing movement of articulated trucks along the Lekki-Epe corridor.

This initiative comes in response to growing concerns over traffic congestion, road safety hazards, and environmental impact caused by the steady rise in truck traffic associated with the operations of the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Dangote Refinery, and other key infrastructure projects in the area.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said on Monday that the move is part of proactive efforts by the government to maintain order and improve logistics efficiency on the corridor.

“With the growing industrial and commercial activity in the Lekki-Epe axis, it has become necessary to adopt a smarter system to coordinate the movement of cargo trucks and prevent gridlocks that could paralyze the entire region,” he stated.

The E-call up system, modeled after the Apapa traffic management scheme, will require truck operators to digitally schedule their movements through an approved platform before accessing designated loading and offloading zones.

Mr. Osiyemi added that the state government will work in collaboration with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Lekki Free Zone Development Authority, traffic management agencies, and private stakeholders to ensure seamless implementation.

He emphasized that sanctions will be imposed on operators who fail to comply, including vehicle impoundment and fines.

The rollout of the system is expected to begin in phases within the coming weeks, starting with high-traffic zones, as part of broader measures to enhance infrastructure resilience and support sustainable urban development in Lagos.
