Rivers Chief of Staff Alleges N5 Billion Bribe Offer to Impeach Governor Fubara

Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has made a shocking allegation that he was offered a N5 billion bribe to coordinate the impeachment of his principal. Ehie claimed he has evidence of the bribe offer stored on his phone, which he says was made in October 2023.

The Chief of Staff denied claims that he orchestrated the bombing of the Rivers Assembly complex on Fubara’s orders. A former Head of Service in the state, George Nwaeke, had made the allegation during a press conference. Ehie dismissed the claims as false and politically motivated, stating that he had no hand in the bombing and was not part of it.

Ehie has instructed his lawyers to file a lawsuit against Nwaeke for criminal libel. He also alleged that Nwaeke had sought financial assistance from him on the same day he resigned as head of service.

The allegation comes amid ongoing turmoil in Rivers State, which has been plagued by a fallout between Fubara and his predecessor, current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike. President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state on March 18 and suspended both the governor and his deputy. The sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, subsequently suspended all political officeholders in the state on March 26.
