Riyadh Launches Regulated Residential Parking, Begins with Al-Wurood Neighbourhood on August 10

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have announced the commencement of the Riyadh Parking Project, with a focus on managing parking within residential areas. The initiative, which kicks off on the 10th of August 2025, will begin with the Al-Wurood neighbourhood as part of its initial phase aimed at streamlining urban traffic and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.

The project introduces a digital permit system designed to regulate parking access for both residents and their visitors. Permits will be processed exclusively through the official Riyadh Parking mobile application, which is now active and available for use. Through the app, residents can obtain verified digital parking passes, while visitors will also be required to comply with the same digital protocol during their stay in the area.

According to officials overseeing the project, the primary objective is to curb indiscriminate and unregulated parking practices that have long contributed to congestion and urban disorganization in the capital. The authorities added that the initiative is not only about managing space but also about creating a more orderly, accessible, and livable city environment.

As part of a broader urban mobility strategy, the managed residential parking model will eventually be extended to other neighbourhoods surrounding Riyadh’s paid parking zones. By gradually expanding the scope of the project, city planners hope to integrate residential and commercial parking policies more effectively.

This development reflects Riyadh’s continued commitment to digital transformation, smart city planning, and citizen-centric urban reforms under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 agenda. It also aligns with efforts to reduce traffic-related stress, optimize public infrastructure, and promote a cleaner and more efficient transportation system across the Kingdom.

Residents of Al-Wurood and surrounding districts are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the digital platform, obtain their permits on time, and adhere to the parking guidelines to avoid penalties and ensure a smooth rollout of the new system.
