Lagos, July 2, 2025 — Jubilation erupted among residents, motorists, and commuters on Tuesday as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially commissioned the newly completed road projects in Agege and the Igando-Ikotun axis of Lagos State.
The commissioning, which drew crowds of enthusiastic locals, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Sanwo-Olu administration to improve road infrastructure and ease vehicular movement across the state’s densely populated communities.
The roads commissioned include several key inner-city link roads that had long been in a state of disrepair, contributing to traffic congestion and impeding socio-economic activities in the affected areas. With their rehabilitation, residents say travel time has been drastically reduced, while access to essential services such as schools, markets, and health facilities has greatly improved.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, while addressing the gathering during the commissioning, reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to deliver impactful infrastructure that meets the needs of all Lagosians. He noted that the road projects are part of the state’s broader urban renewal and development strategy aimed at fostering economic growth and social inclusion.
“Today is a testament to what we can achieve when leadership is committed to the needs of the people,” the governor said. “We are not just building roads; we are opening up communities, connecting lives, and strengthening the economic base of our state.”
The event witnessed massive turnout, with community leaders, traditional rulers, transport unions, and youths expressing appreciation to the government. Several road users described the intervention as “timely and life-changing,” especially as the rainy season often worsened their commuting experiences in the past.
Commercial drivers and transport operators also hailed the development, stating that the road upgrade has reduced the wear and tear on their vehicles and enhanced safety for passengers.
The newly commissioned roads are expected to boost local commerce, reduce flooding, and enhance connectivity between suburbs and commercial centers, reinforcing the administration’s THEMES Plus agenda focused on traffic management and infrastructural development.
As the projects are handed over for public use, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged residents to take ownership by ensuring proper maintenance and discouraging practices that degrade public infrastructure.
