Sokoto Now Ridicule of Entire Nation – PDP

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Muhammad Goronyo, has expressed strong criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in the state, accusing it of poor governance, financial mismanagement, and a lack of empathy for the people. Speaking to journalists at the PDP secretariat in Sokoto on Saturday, during a quarterly gathering of current and former party executives, Goronyo lambasted the current administration, describing it as “anti-people and anti-progress.” He further claimed that the APC-led government has been a major setback for the state since assuming power in 2023.

Goronyo argued that governance in Sokoto had significantly deteriorated since the PDP was ousted from office. He pointed to the demolition of businesses instead of supporting their growth, a dwindling number of employment opportunities, and the ongoing suffering of citizens due to rising costs of living and worsening security. He expressed deep concern over the state’s failure to address the growing insecurity, as well as the inability to foster economic stability.

The PDP chairman was particularly critical of how the state government has managed local government finances. He stated that despite claims of savings in local councils, there had been no meaningful development in any of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) since the APC took over. “For two years, there has been no significant project at the grassroots level. Yet, when allocation was delayed for just one month, they couldn’t pay salaries. This shows that the local governments are financially distressed, and funds that should be used for development have been misused,” he alleged.

Goronyo also vehemently rejected the Federal Government’s recent assertion that security had improved across the country. According to him, the security situation in Sokoto has been worsening by the day, with frequent reports of killings and kidnappings. “The reality in Sokoto is far from what is being reported in Abuja. People are attacked almost every day, and there is no response from the government. No sympathy, no support – they are failing woefully in their primary responsibility,” he said, calling out the state government’s lack of action in addressing the ongoing security challenges.

Despite the grim political and security climate, Goronyo expressed optimism for the PDP’s future in the state, reaffirming his party’s determination to reclaim power in the 2027 elections. He stated, “This meeting is part of our ongoing efforts to assess our progress and strategize for the future. The PDP remains the most grounded and resilient party in Nigeria, and with the grace of God, we will return stronger in 2027 in Sokoto and across the nation.”

The PDP chairman also dismissed rumors about a possible merger with other political parties, stressing that the PDP would maintain its original identity as the “last man standing” among the parties registered in 1998. He concluded by reiterating his confidence in the party’s ability to win back the trust of the people and secure electoral victory in the years ahead.
