Sokoto State Launches Tanker Fire Awareness Campaign Following Recent Incident

In response to the growing risks associated with tanker fires, Sokoto State Government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has launched a comprehensive sensitization campaign to educate communities on tanker fire prevention and safety measures.

The campaign began in the Danbaza community of Maradun Local Government Area, targeting residents and commercial drivers with information on how to avoid and respond to tanker fire emergencies. NEMA’s Sokoto Operations Office, led by Tukur Abubakar, spearheaded the outreach, distributing educational materials and engaging locals on the importance of fire safety.

This initiative follows a recent incident in March 2025, when a fuel tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) overturned at the Nakasari Roundabout in Sokoto. Prompt action by emergency responders, including the State Security Service (SSS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS), prevented a potential explosion by quickly containing the situation with foam concentrate.

Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue such awareness drives across the state to enhance public safety and community preparedness against tanker fire hazards.

Residents are urged to adhere to safety guidelines, report any suspicious activities involving fuel tankers, and actively participate in future sensitization programs to safeguard lives and properties from the dangers of tanker fires.
