SP Abimbola Adebisi Takes Over as New Lagos Police PRO, Replaces Benjamin Hundeyin

In a fresh development within the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force, Superintendent of Police (SP) Abimbola Adebisi has been appointed as the new Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Lagos State Police Command. The announcement was made public by his predecessor, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the transition via his official communication channels earlier today.

SP Adebisi assumes this critical role at a time when effective public engagement and transparent communication are central to policing in Lagos — Nigeria’s most populous and economically vibrant state. His appointment marks a new chapter in the command’s efforts to sustain trust between law enforcement and the public amid the evolving security landscape of the state.

Prior to his elevation to the spokesperson position, Adebisi had served in various strategic and operational capacities within the police force, with notable experience in community policing, crime prevention strategies, and internal affairs. His background in communication, coupled with years of service in the Lagos Command, is expected to play a significant role in maintaining the delicate balance between police operations and public perception.

SP Hundeyin, who held the position since 2022, is widely recognised for his active media presence and timely dissemination of security information to residents of Lagos. His tenure was marked by proactive engagement with the media and civil society, particularly during high-pressure periods such as the #EndSARS aftermath, election security duties, and the clampdown on cult-related activities in some parts of the state. His departure from the role signals a routine restructuring within the force and may see him redeployed to another key posting, although official confirmation on his next assignment is still pending.

In his farewell message, Hundeyin expressed confidence in Adebisi’s capability to carry on the mandate of the office with professionalism, diligence, and tact. He also urged the public and media stakeholders to extend the same cooperation and support that had been given to him during his tenure.

The office of the Police Public Relations Officer serves as the bridge between the police and the public, ensuring that accurate information is disseminated promptly and that citizens’ concerns are relayed to the appropriate quarters. In a megacity like Lagos, which is often under the lens of national and international attention due to its complex urban dynamics, the role of the PPRO is both sensitive and strategic.

Observers within the security and media community have welcomed Adebisi’s appointment, citing his previous track record and interpersonal skills as assets that would be instrumental in the position. He is expected to hit the ground running, especially as Lagos continues to grapple with pressing issues such as traffic-related crimes, cultism, petty theft, cyber fraud, and periodic inter-community clashes.

With this new appointment, the Lagos State Command reiterates its commitment to fostering a police-public relationship rooted in trust, accountability, and mutual respect. All eyes will now be on SP Abimbola Adebisi as he steps into one of the most high-profile police communication roles in the country.
