Dessers, who recently starred for the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup in London, had a memorable tournament in May, scoring a goal and registering his first-ever assist in Nigerian colours during Nigeria’s victory. However, the 29-year-old was notably absent from the Super Eagles’ friendly against Russia last Friday, with reports confirming that he had requested to be excused from the squad to finalise preparations for his wedding.
Head coach Eric Chelle granted the striker permission to miss the fixture and instead handed a first international call-up to Krasnodar’s in-form attacker, Olakunle Olusegun, who was among the fresh faces included in the 20-man squad for the friendly encounter.
