Tinubu Applauds NDDC’s Sports Initiative, Foresees Peace, Youth Development in Niger Delta

President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its proactive step in organizing the Niger Delta Sports Festival, emphasizing its potential to foster peace and enhance youth development in the region.

Represented by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, at the opening ceremony in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, President Tinubu described the festival as a pioneering effort. He highlighted its significance in harnessing the talents of young people, promoting unity, and advancing community development within the Niger Delta region.

According to a statement released by NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, President Tinubu conveyed his commendation, stating, “Let me commend the Niger Delta Development Commission for its initiative in organising this laudable event aimed at bringing young sports talents from the region together.”

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the sports festival would stimulate youth development, promote peace, and contribute to economic growth, while also enhancing community development and security. He acknowledged the competition’s role in boosting grassroots sports development and complementing the federal government’s structural reforms in the sports sector, facilitated through the National Sports Commission.

Furthermore, President Tinubu recognized the NDDC’s foresight in creating opportunities for increased participation and interest in sports among state governments in the Niger Delta region. He also commended the Akwa Ibom state government for its consistent support in promoting and developing sports in the country.
